For over half a century, the Easter weekend has marked the date of one of
the largest events for Pacific Northwest sailing. The Southern Straits
Yacht Race, hosted by the West Vancouver Yacht Club, offers sailors the
unique opportunity to compete in an overnight long distance race around
Georgia Strait.
2019 will mark the 51st year in West Vancouver for this historic race and
we are expecting around 100 boats (that’s over 800 sailors on the water!)
to be on the Start Line jostling for position. Bring your camera!
Each year the Southern Straits yacht race starts off Dundarave Pier at the
bottom of 25th Avenue in West Vancouver with a family friendly
festival-type atmosphere that offers those on the shore the opportunity to
view the competitors up close as boats come within 50 feet of the Pier.
Typically a crowd of several hundred people gather to see the boats off in
conjunction with a free Lions Pancake Breakfast, live music from The West
Vancouver Pops Band, Sponsor displays in the race village area and of
course, the much anticipated visit from the Easter Bunny, who hands out
treats.
Festivities start on Friday, April 19, 2019 at 9:00am. We look forward to
